The Malbank Spring Meeting 2026 will take place at the Function Room, Nantwich Football Club, Waterlode CW5 5BS on Tuesday 21st April at 7.30 pm. To view and/or download the poster please click here.
The speaker will be social historian Lucy Adlington (a specialist in women’s history in the 1940s) who has researched the lives and fates of 25 young inmates (mainly Jewish women and girls) of the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp who ‘sewed to survive’, resulting in her powerful chronicle ‘ The Dressmakers of Auschwitz’ which became a New York Times bestseller. At the height of the holocaust these women were chosen to create beautiful fashions for elite Nazi women in a dedicated salon established by the camp commandant’s wife.
This fascinating presentation, drawing on eyewitness interviews and with original garments from the era, is a remarkable tale of resilience, camaraderie and quiet heroism in the most extreme circumstances.
