World Rivers Day is a global celebration to highlight the importance of our rivers and waterways and encourage communities to protect and care for these precious natural environments. To mark the occasion, the Cheshire WI Public Affairs Team invites you to join them on Sunday 27th September 2026 for a gentle litter pick along the Bridgewater Canal. We will meet at 11.00 am at Norton Priory Car Park (FREE), Tudor Road, Runcorn WA7 1SX.
Show your support by wearing blue or green, bringing a banner or simply coming along to lend a hand. If you have your own litter picker, please bring it with you—we’ll provide the bags.

We’ll also be taking plenty of photographs to share on social media, helping to spread the message that our rivers and canals matter and that, together, we can all play a part in keeping them clean. Well-behaved dogs on leads are very welcome.
Norton Priory has free-to-use toilets and a café, both accessible without purchasing an admission ticket. If you’d like to make a day of it entry to the museum and beautiful historic grounds is £13.95. It’s one of Cheshire’s hidden gems and well worth a visit.
