SHROPSHIRE, STAFFORDSHIRE AND CHESHIRE BLOOD BIKES
The SSCBB 25 strong speaker team, created in early 2016, has made presentations to 179 WI groups within Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire. The feedback from their members has been amazing. Their comments and their ongoing support of the charity remarkable. Financial donations on the night of the talks (in addition to the numerous cups of tea and delicious cake) were generous and many WI members contacted us at a later date with further donations from events they had held themselves. In excess of £26,000 has been donated so far.
In August 2020 SSCBB purchased a new bike to join the fleet, an FJR 1300. It needed a name!
The charity had been aware for some time that the WI Federations in our operating area had been extremely generous over the last few years so it seemed only fitting to approach them to suggest a name for the bike which would honour the WI’s and it’s members.
Jean Harding, the Chairman of the Cheshire WI Federation, and her members submitted the name Denman. Out of all the suggestions received we felt that this name was perfect.
Denman has been on duty in Cheshire serving the local hospitals since September 2020 but circumstances have made it difficult to ‘launch’ the new bike but on Saturday May 1st we were able to finally introduce Denman to Jean and her WI colleague Zeta Emmett, Trustee and Denman Ambassador. They were joined by Steve H, Area Lead for Cheshire and a member of the Speaker Team and also Helen, the Speaker Team Co-ordinator.
Any WI interested in a presentation on the Blood Bike service please contact Helen at [email protected]
If you live outside of Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire and would like a talk from your local group then search blood bike groups in your area or message Helen and she will point you in the right direction.
