People lined the streets of Chester to enjoy the city’s Pride parade this weekend. What a sweltering hot day.  The event was welcomed back  after Covid-19 just in time to celebrate its 10th Birthday and it didn’t disappoint.

It was thanks to Vickie Downie of the Iron Maidens and member of the Public Affairs Sub Committee to organise this years attendance by Cheshire Federation and by encouraging members to get involved from The Iron Maidens, Runcorn WI, Middle Wyches WI, Fulshaw WI and Little Sutton Sapphires WI. Trustees Georgina Denny – Chair of Public Affairs  and Wendy Morris – Chair of Website and Social Media  and Bev Langham Chair of the Vale Royal Group also attended the event.

We walked in the parade which involved local groups and organisations such as Chester Zoo, The Woodland Trust, The Samaritans, Cheshire Police, NHS etc and we meandered through the city as people cheered and waved flags to encourage us. It was a lovely colourful happy event for all the family.

After the parade Castle Square had entertainment, stalls and information stands to keep people in the City until the evening. The Federation had a stand in the Well Being Tent.

The WI is open to all women over the age of 18 and those who identify as a women and this Saturday was certainly our opportunity to let the people of Chester and beyond know. What a fabulous time we had speaking to lots of people who were genuinely keen to learn about the WI, educate them about our campaigns and what a WI could offer them. We took names, signposted them to NFWI social media platforms, handed out literature, WI Life magazines and encourage women to use the QR code taking them straight to the NFWI site which was really useful for those living outside of the Federation.

There was already talk about next year! Thank you to all those who took part.
