Great Moor Plant a Tree

Members of Great Moor & District WI enjoyed planting their tree for the CFWI Chairman’s challenge this afternoon.  Assisted by Ed Pilkington of the Cheshire East Ranger Service who facilitated the sourcing of our tree – a lovely Victoria plum, we welcomed the Mayor of Cheshire East, Lesley Smethem and the Mayor of Stockport, Cllr Walter Brett.  The former, as we planted our tree on the Middlewood Way on her ‘patch’ and the latter, as our WI comes under Stockport.  Many of our members enjoy walking the Middlewood Way and we were pleased to be able to add our Victoria Plum to a small area recently planted with other fruit trees.  Cherries, apples, pears and another variety of plum.  It was a first time to plant a tree for both mayors and for president of Great Moor & District, Alia el Asmar. We still have to install our plaque and Ranger Ed thought we should have another ceremony as the cakes were so good!
