GRAPPENHALL WI 100 YEARS What do you do on a cold and snowy January Afternoon? Grappenhall WI members headed out to celebrate 100 years of their WI. Jean Geering their President welcomed 50+ members and former members, as well as guests  Selina Prescott (CFWI Chairman) Gwyneth Richardson (Bridgewater Group Chairman) and Pat Sharp (WI Adviser).

The WI has always taken an active role in village activities and their day was made extra special by a thank you tribute to the WI with the ringing of the Church Bells for three-quarters of an hour. On arrival at the Community Centre Meeting room, the WI were also welcomed to a beautifully decorated and illuminated room. A gift to them from the Community Centre. The party commenced, the cake was cut by their longest serving member Jean Butters followed by a buffet lunch and entertainment by singer Kev Cosgrove. Members took this opportunity to get out of their seats and dance.

Being 100 years old a lot of archives were on display, photographs, programme cards and minute books. There was one item of intrigue which nobody knew anything about. A banner had been found recently in the attic of the Community Centre. It had obviously been there a long, long time. Grappenhall WI would like to hear from anybody who might know the origin of this extra special find.
