The Cheshire Federation was formed on 17th November 1920. The Federation grew quickly.
The NFWI realised the need for helping members in forming Womens Institutes and county organisers were trained by National to work across the county to open new Institutes. To begin with they were paid but later they received expenses and became voluntary county organisers (VCOs)
Our present WI advisers are still trained by NFWI trainers at Denman College on how form new WIs and how to help members to run their WIs Sometimes they have to suspend WIs. WIas travel miles across the county to visit existing WIs and give them support.
Despite the problems of transport in the early part of the 20th Century Mrs Madge Watt travelled up from Sussex to be the speaker at the Annual Council meeting in Chester in July 1925.
Lady Denman visited Cheshire for the first time to attend the Annual Meeting in the January of 1925.
In 1926 the first Federation Fete was held at Bolesworth Castle by kind permission of Major and Mrs Robert Barbour, which was a great success, every WI was represented and there were 5000 people present. A profit of £330 16s 2d was made at the event.
