On Friday 28th July 2023 the gardening group made a special visit to Dunham Massey Hall to view the Dunham Massey Book of Remembrance, which had been opened at the page commemorating the planting of a Rare Magnolia Tree which was planted by the head gardener Emily on Thursday 13th February 2020, to celebrate The Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes 100th Anniversary.
This relates to a rare Magnolia named Biondii, grown at the National Trust Nursery in Devon, which the Dunham Massey WI had special permission, from the National Trust to plant in the Gardens of Dunham Massey Hall, in 2020. This was to commemorate the Centenary of the CFWI. The Memorial/Remembrance Book gives a small write up about our WI association with Dunham Massey and how the tree planting came about.
