Jean Harding – Chairman

Today is Cheshire Federations Centenary Birthday. Several years of planning went into putting together a really exciting programme of events throughout the Federation which have been derailed, however, what we have seen is how our members have gone above and beyond for their members and their community. We are so PROUD. We will certainly never forget our Centenary year.

We hope you can raise a glass of something and listen to this lovely rendition of Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday

It just so happened that the Board of Trustees meeting was on Centenary Day – 17th November. This is how we celebrated.

CHESHIRE FEDERATION OF WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

REPORT FOR 1920

The County Federation for Cheshire was formed at a meeting of delegates held at Crewe on November 17th at which Mrs. Warner, Official Organiser for the district, presided. At the end of the year there were fifteen WIs in the county with a membership of about 1150. All the Institutes seem to be doing well, though the membership in some cases is rather small. The chief industry that has been taken up is that of glove-making, nine out of the fifteen Institutes having had Demonstrations or Classes on the subject, while basket-making has claimed the attention of some. Many have availed themselves of the lectures on Horticulture, Fruit-bottling and kindred subjects provided by the County Council Education Committee, whose help in this and other ways we gratefully acknowledge.

Mrs. Warner paid a visit to the County in June and attended meetings at all the Institutes then in existence. Her tour concluded with a Conference for WI officers held in Darnhall Hall by the kind invitation of Mrs. Verdin. Nearly all the Institutes were represented at this conference which proved very helpful. During October Mrs. Prestwich, Vice-President of the Kelsall, Utkinton and Willington WI invited representatives from all parts of the county to a lecture given by Miss Preece, who gave her hearers many useful ideas. In November Miss Pollock visited several of the Institutes and gave demonstrations on Skin-Curing, the fact that these were appreciated was shown by the speedy invitation given to Miss Pollock to come and give some more.
