On Wednesday 26thJanuary 7pm for 7:30pm start we had the pleasure in welcoming Joanne Goodwin, Editor of Cheshire Life.
Joanne learned to read, aged five, by picking out the words in her grandmother’s Woman magazine. Joanne started her career as a reporter on the Stafford and Stone Newsletter before joining her hometown daily The Sentinel, in Stoke-on-Trent, and working on all aspects of the newsroom operation, from reporting and news editing to subbing, features editing and design. After her spell as an editor on the aforementioned weekly titles, she returned to The Sentinel and held roles including assistant editor and then deputy editor.
A few years (hmmm…) later, after a career in regional newspapers and magazines, she got the job she had long coveted – the editorship of Cheshire Life. But she wasn’t prepared for the impact the title has, or how wonderful it would be to have this professional swansong.
She talked about her roles and experiences as a reporter and an editor, and explained why she is glad to be working on magazines, not newspapers, these days.
We are very lucky that Joanne is hoping to put an article together about our WI members so look out for it.
Joanne is interested in news from around the region so if you have any stories just let her know [email protected]
The evening concluded with many questions for Joanne and a Vote of Thanks by Amanda Stevens from Fulshaw. Jean Harding, Chairman, thanked the members for attending.
