On Thursday the 28th January at 7pm for a 7.30pm start we had the pleasure in welcoming Jacqui Felix- Mitchell – Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and RHS Garden Design Consultancy. Thank you to the 375 members who attended this meeting. We are so so grateful for your support. We really do appreciate the members for attending and the Board of Trustees for supporting this initiative.
Her love of gardens stems back to her childhood in inner city Bristol. With only a yard to work with she planted grass seed and simply imagined what the space could be like – if it wasn’t for her dad’s tomatoes and runner beans!
She now enjoys architectural plants with a sense of the tropical – hinting at her Caribbean heritage – mixed with well-loved English Cottage Garden favourites. She loves making people feel excited about the space they could have.

Message from Jacquie
What a delight it was to give my talk to almost 400 ladies on Thursday. It was a very emotional experience and I fully enjoyed it. I hope that your members did too.
As promised, here are the spellings of some of the plants discussed:
- Dipsacus fullonum – common name: Teasel
- Cyperus alternifolius – Common name: Umbrella papyrus
- One of the ladies wanted to know more about tree lupins : They can be annuals, perennials or shrubs, so it depends what variety she has in her garden, as to whether this plant will return. If she would like an evergreen variety which is fast growing and medium sized, she could try planting Lupinus arboreus
Thank you once again for inviting me to give a talk to your lovely group.
