Three of our Cheshire Climate Ambassadors attended The WI’s Climate Conference in London yesterday, Fiona Barry, Sue Bentley and Hilary Robinson. They enjoyed a day packed with climate crisis expert speakers and prominent politicians, including a very impressive Lady Teresa May MP, Sir Alok Sharma MP the head of COP26 and the charismatic Ed Miliband MP. Mr Miliband in particular was given a rapturous and sustained round of applause at the end of his speech, which was a rousing call to action for all of us. There were discussion panels about food waste and community action, others about the future and what needs to be done to get to 2050 and net zero. Ann Jones our National Chair ran the whole event with unfailing energy and strict time keeping.
It was inspiring and interesting and I think a lot of the Climate Ambassadors who went to the event took home ideas for their own Federations.
In amongst all those prestigious speakers our own Sue Bentley was asked to sit on the last discussion panel to talk about holding community events and outreach. An exhilarating experience for Sue! The recording of the day is available on MYWI
