Royal Cheshire Show 2018

The Royal Cheshire Show is a highlight of the Cheshire Federation Calendar and is an opportunity for members of institutes from all over the Federation to come together.   The WI marquee is an excellent show case for the Federation and this year the exhibits were of an exceptionally high standard and the interpretations of the theme, Land, Sea and Air had to be seen to be believed.  Where do those ideas come from?

The sub-committee display boards together with the Denman college board drew much attention as did the Archives stand and the very talented demonstrators.  All were shown much interest by members and the general public alike. There was great interest, with people wanting information about the WI ,and in the Public Affairs stand where the Suffragettes were represented.

The publications stand drew many compliments about the high standard of items for sale and therefore many purchases made.  The refreshments area saw non-stop trade as the delicious, freshly prepared food tempted a large number of customers.

Members of many institutes were in evidence at the Show either demonstrating their talents in the different classes or helping out on the day.  Members were also helping run the demonstration area, the Archives, Public Affairs, ACWW and Membership Displays.   NFWI Raffle tickets sold out!

And Members also had the opportunity to be judges’ stewards on the Monday and so got an advance look at all the entries and could see first hand how the judging takes place.  Perhaps they will go on to do the Judges’ training themselves?  Other members helped out by doing a stewarding shift, taking responsibility for the exhibits in a class and answering queries from the public.  Others enjoyed serving on the fast food section or in the main food area and others worked on the production line decorating and cutting up the cakes provided by members or behind the scenes preparing sandwich fillings and salads.

There really is something for everyone to get involved in and needn’t take up more than a few hours of your day. Our Federation Trustees and Cheshire Federation committee members are hard at work on our behalf before, during and after the show and our 2018 WI Marquee really was a highlight of the Cheshire Show and a destination point for visitors, WI members or not.

And a huge thank you for your contribution to making the Show a huge success is sent to all concerned by Jean Harding, our Federation Chair.

If you haven’t entered the competition before, do have a look at the classes for 2019 when they are announced later this year and do consider helping out at next year’s show as it is lovely to see how members from all over the federation work together to bring about such a wonderful show.   A great networking event too, friendships are made and ideas shared. Here’s to bigger and better 2019!
