Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes welcomes School Children to WI House
When Year Three of Dee Point School, Blacon were selected to decorate one of the
Christmas Trees on display in The Cloisters of Chester Cathedral, they chose The
Women's Institute as their theme. They invited Cheshire Federation's Chairman and
Vice Chairman, Frances Woollam and Jean Harding to their school to answer their many
questions regarding the organisation.
As a result a return invitation was issued and on Wednesday, 16th December 56
pupils, suitably adorned in Christmas hats, together with 5 teachers were seen
wending their way along White Friars to visit number 11 the Headquarters of the
Cheshire Federation where they were greeted by Frances and Jean. All the children
were seated at tables and they were given gift tags and ribbon to turn them into
hanging tags for the tree. Following their packed lunches the pupils, whose
behaviour was exemplary, entertained with Christmas carols, culminating in a rendition
of Twelve Days of Christmas. They insisted on the WI ladies taking part as Eight
Maids a Milking!!
The pupils were sent happily on their way with a satsuma and chocolate, to visit the
Cathedral to see their tree.
A most memorable day was had by all. Who knows how many of the young girls will
become members in the future when they will be able to relate their first encounter
with the WI and first visit to Cheshire WI Headquarters.
It is a lovely photograph of Frances Woollam, Federation Chairman, wearing the Father Christmas Jumper and antlers.
The tree looked wonderful in the Cathedral.
